Warhammer 40k is a table top game set in the year 40,000.
The Imperium of Man, is beset on all sides by alien threats. Chaos is on the verge of devouring the universe.
In the game of Warhammer 40,000 you can choose to play as the defenders of humanity including the genetically enhanced Space Marines and the vast armies of the Imperial Guard, or as one of its many enemies, including the technologically advanced Tau(my personal favorite), the ancient Eldar and their Craftworlds, the swarms of Tyranids and their hive fleets, and the daemons of various evil gods like Tzeentch and Khorne.
To play you need to collect, build, and paint models to use as your army. I have included pictures of professional models:
Currently, I have a small collection of Space Marines and a larger collection of Tau. The Space Marines I built and the Tau were bought on Ebay which is a good source of pre-made/pre-painted models. Here are some examples of a battle and some pictures of my models:
